Uniformed Organisations

Uniformed1

Rainbows welcomes all girls from 4 to 7 years old for play, learning and tons of fun in a colourful, safe space. Rainbows follow our Programme. In unit meetings, they do fun activities, play games and earn skills builder badges, all while being supported by our trained volunteers. Your child could get skills builder badges in themes such as camping, communication and first aid. And if she wants to take guiding home, there’s lots of interest badges to do in between unit meetings, like the book lover badge, construction badge and helper badge.

Having successfully completed their Rainbow stage the girls move onto being a Brownie.  Brownies is for girls of seven to ten years of age.  Being a Brownie involves being part of a pack built up of smaller units referred to as "Sixes".  This is designed to ensure that all of the girls in a "Six" have a unit of "ready made friends" and can interact and mix with those around them, which helps to build up confidence.  Weekly meetings include a variety of activities including craft, cooking, singing, badge work and even trips out.  Brownies also have the chance to go on holidays together.  Brownies meet at the church on a Wednesday evening at 6.15pm.

Guides is for girls from ten to fourteen years of age.  Guides form patrols, in a similar way to the Brownies before them with their "sixes", but these "patrols" are encouraged to plan their own activities and elect their own patrol leader who will be instrumental in helping plan activities and also act as a mentor for the others in the group.  This role - and the role of the others in the group - is designed to help the girls build confidence and also build up their ability to plan and take control of their own lives, skills which will be invaluable in adult life.  Meetings have a wide range of activities from cooking & crafts, to badge work & outdoor activities.  Guides can go camping, take part in adventurous activities such as abseiling, and go on holidays with their unit.  Guides meet at the church on a Wednesday evening at 6.15pm

Planning your Visit

A Warm Hello

The following information is specifically for those planning a visit, so that you know, beforehand, what to expect on a Sunday morning.

Where and When

We meet at the Church Building (details here) for our Sunday Service starting at 10:45am. For your first visit, we recommend arriving 10-15 minutes early to find somewhere to sit before the service begins. When you arrive, you should be greeted by someone on our Welcome Team at the door.

Accessibility: There is wheelchair access, and a sound loop for anyone who needs it. Please let one of the Welcome Team know on your arrival and they will help you to get set up. There are disabled toilets in the main foyer.

Our Service

The main service begins at 10:45am with a warm welcome from one of our team members, however we encourage people to spend time before this in prayer, either silently or sometimes a person might pray out loud or read a small passage from the bible whilst music plays.   We have a number of different leaders who may introduce and then lead the service. News and notices, usually about what’s going on in the life of the church will be shared . We have no set format for our services however it will be composed of prayers, worship (singing) bible reading and a sermon that is bible based and that we can apply to our everyday life.   Once a month we celebrate Holy Communion.

We serve tea, coffee and biscuits when the service finishes. It is a great way to meet people, or simply take time to find your bearings and pray with others. All refreshments are free.

What about my kids?

In parallel with the main service there is "Sprouts" for children which runs from 10.45am to 12 in the rear hall.  There are also "Parade Services" where the Uniformed Organisations take part in the first part of the service and then join in with Sprouts activities for the remaining time.

The kids group activities vary depending on the age but usually there is a friendly welcome, bible stories, testimonies, praying, music, craft, drama, fun games and free play. Please pick your children up as soon as the service finishes.

Getting Connected

House Groups

While Sundays are a great way to meet new people, it is often in smaller gatherings that you can really get to know someone. Being part of one of our small groups allows you to make new friends, share together and support each other. We have a variety of groups that meet throughout the week, some afternoons and some evenings. Check out House Groups and see if there’s one that you could join, or we can put you in touch with a small group leader who will be more than happy to invite you along to their group.

Prayer Meetings

Our regular prayer meetings are a great opportunity give thanks and talk with God together.  There are opportunities to fellowship and chat before and after the meetings which are both online and in person and at various times of the week.  Please see our Prayer Meetings page for further details.
